Blood Shadows was better than I expected. Caitlin Parish is the super star of an agency bent on keeping the peace between vampires and humans. For years, she has been after infamous bad boy vampire Kane Malloy. Now it's personal. With little time left to live, Kane is the only one who can possible save her from the evil entity that killed her parents and that is now coming for her. Kane "agrees" to help but clearly has his own agenda. With dark pasts behind them both, they help each other overcome their pasts and fill the voids in their hearts that have been hollow for so long.
Caitlin is a bad-ass but kind of turns into a mary-sue when faced with Kane. Why? BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST INSTA-LOVE BOOK EVER. This physical attraction between the two is immediate even though they hate each other. And it is super frustrating how close they get to liking each other but then try to play and dupe the other, thinking that they'll use the other to their advantage. Argh. Which came first, trust or love? idfk. It's confusing.
Despite my complaining about the love-game going, it was interesting for a while. I admit I was pulled in. I knew how it would end (it was pretty predictable what would happen), but I loved the journey of seeing how it would play out exactly. I will be sad to moving onto different characters in the next book, but the author promises this is not the end for Caitlin and Kane so I'll keep reading for that alone.
In a genre that is still ill-defined and passing through rocky-waters, Blood Shadows was a well done solidly new adult read .
