Edit: i'm not sure why, but every period in the last sentence is being moved to the beginning of the last sentence. I have (for now) fixed it by putting a d at the end of each sentence. Pay no mind to it.d
This book was nothing short of simple, pure fun. Samantha Young weaves a tale of love, betrayal, belonging, and magic. Caia has been away from her pack 10 or more so years, hiding out and living quietly. Finally, it is time for Caia and her guardian Irini to head back to Pack Errant. There she is greeted by Irini's family and taken in as one of their own. However, not everyone accepts Caia easily for she is half midnight and half daylight. Or, how the world sees her: half good half evil. Slowly, she gains some of the packs trust, especially gains the attention of the alpha male, Lucien. But he's keeping secrets. d
Young really knows how to write. The subpar plot was well-made up for with her emotional and in-depth style of writing. You will instantly be pulled into and entranced by the world of the Pack Errant. Your heart will lift and hurt along with Caia. You will feel her loneliness, your gut will wrench at her betrayal and feel light with the love and tentative . . friendships she fosters. d
Caia, for the dear that she is, is a bit of a mary-sue in terms of standing up for herself. she forgives easily and understands everyone's hatred. I think it's foolish and unrealistic to believe someone would be so pure and hate no one in return, despite being bullied, egged on, and shitted upon by others She thinks the best of everyone and it drives me up the wall. d
Luckily, when Caia is being frustrating, we've got some awesome side characters to help bring the plot about. Sebastian and Jaeda, Caia's friends are endearing and I can't wait to learn more about Jaedan especially. d
Seeing the shy and quiet Caia coming into herself, and her special place in the pack was heart-warming and heart-wrentching at the same time. Caia tries so hard to fit in and falls for Luciene, but he betrays her trust again and again. It was frustrating to see them work well together and then see him trample on her heart. d
