I apparently read this book 5 years ago and remembered nothing. So I decided to listen to it on my commutes and downtime at work seeing as I rated it pretty highly at 4 stars. Second time around, I still rate it 4 stars.
I loved our main character, Deuce- despite all odds stacked against her, tried to follow her heart even though she knew it was against protocol of being a huntress. She gave people a chance--something rare in her dystopian underground society.
Fade is the mysterious stand-offish loner at Deuce's Enclave, however underneath his rough exterior, he yearns for a better life and knows the Enclave doesn't run nearly as smoothly as it could.
Deuce and Fade are forced to seek out a better place. A small piece of Utopia in the dead world they live in. At first, it's great. This bad-ass team against the world, slow burn romance, kicking zombie butt; it's all good. Two new additions are added to the team who just serve to complicate thins and make a love...quandrangle? It's annoying. It's so incredibly annoying. Deuce is here pining for Fade and Fade just seems to recoil into himself, putting distance between himself and Deuce. Argh.
Do I have hope it'll get better in book 2? No...I sense second book syndrome just waiting to happen with how book one ended. Will I still listen to it...like right now? Eh, yea.
