My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Gaby lives in a small town by the Sea in Australia. She works for a library, has a good friend in her roommate Maggie, and is just trying to get through the grief of her brother dying a year ago. Every day is hard, but the world keeps turning. One day, strolls along a handsome stranger named Rafa who changes her world and lets her know that her whole life and memories up to this point have been a divine lie. It's up to Rafa to help Gaby uncover her memories and keep her safe from all those want her back on their side? What side!! you ask. Read to find out.
Honestly, this book was great. So why the 3.5 star rating? Because I read a court of Mist and Fury right before it and nothing can really compare. It just can't. First of all, I really dislike insta-attraction, but it works out okay here because there's a back story to it. Rafa is your typical fun hot asshole that we swoon about in YA novels but would probably be yelling words of abuse at and calling the cops if he existed in real life.
Unfortunately I'm going to be keeping this as a fairly short review (well, maybe fortunate for you) since everything that is uncovered is a little part of the mystery so I don't want to give anything away. All I can say is it's definitely set up in a similar manner to that of Maize Runner where the characters are chasing after memories and you have no fucking clue what the end game is. Except, it's with angels and demons instead of apocalyptic worlds and endless mazes.
