Amelia has lived a lonely and sheltered life. Her father can't stand to be in a room with her for more than a couple minutes, her brother left her when she was ten, and her mother died when she was ten. Amelia is also a part of a wiped out immortal race called the elders. One catch, no one knows anything about them and she is the last one left. Also her father set up her betrothal to the evil Prince of Immortals. When she moves to Brighton to live near her brother and attend community college, her powers start to get stronger. Will she be able to run away from the boy she loves, Aiden, and her trusty southern bell of a best friend Bethany and her dashing boyfriend Micah?
This book was a solid 3 stars. I would have liked to rate it higher if not for the terrible insta-love that had me gagging at every turn. Amelia and Aiden love each other with a passion that essentially comes out of no where. No build up, no reason, they just fall for each other so very fast it almost gave me whiplash.
Honestly, my favorite character in this book was definitely Micah. He kind, patient, and filled the role of the mysterious background helper. Not to say he doesn't have skeletons in his own closet. Damn, I wish he was with Amelia instead of Bethany, because Aiden just annoys me.
Aside from the insta-love, I really disliked the start of this book. It gave too little information leaving the reader feeling confused and lost. To sum it up, it read like this:
"Hi I'm Amelia. I have power. But I'm not going to bother explaining it. It's purple. Also I can't be with Aiden because he's not immortal. I shouldn't even think about it because I'm betrothed."
...Wait what? Amelia? What is your damn power? Wait, why didn't you explain this n whole immortal society thing at the beginning? I was so confused why you kinda just mentioned it in passing and that was that. Also, you mention your betrothed at the beginning and we're all like, wait...what? Tell us more. BUT YOU DON'T.
It all made sense later but really, the story would have been a lot more cohesive had she explained the background of her life at the beginning. YEA.
