Seri is a goose girl whose people have been oppressed by the crown for over a century. Tempers are raised when the second Prince comes to stay on their land. There is a rumor that the royal family (aka the Blood) is destined...more like cursed to have only sons who must drink the blood of humans for sustenance. However, they will never be happy because the blood of each person they drink will taste terrible. That is, until a royal steps forward, who possess the ability to empathize and be kind, by the Gods, he will be granted an eterna whose blood is forever sweet. Seri is that person. Seri is the Eterna.
I rather enjoyed Queen of blood. granted, it was much too short which led to somewhat to an ugly lack development and in terms of world building AND character relationships. the all problems were solved in a deux ex machina way, which is pretty frustrating because the characters and plot have a lot of potential!! (think throne of glass series if Dorian just asked the king to be nice to his people after a bajillion years of cruelty and he just said "okay, sure, now get out of my sight, only son/princling.")
I loved Seri and how her relationship with her village and the crown slowly changed. She was truly stuck between two worlds and neither want her at certain points. Although she despairs, she doesn't give up. she makes mistakes, but doesn't let the wounds just sit and fester, so to speak. the love interest was a bit crude but he grows on you. Though you can't help but wonder if their love was God-sent, or they truly would have loved one another if not for their their forced connection by the Gods. It irks me not to know.
a lovely addition to the new adult genre that explores the themes of race control, and interracial love, all set in a fictional world where blood determines all.
