I was craving this week. it's a fantasy with troubled princes and princesses who hate each other but find they have more in common than they could have guessed...and it isn't all good.
Based loosly on the story of King Midas, our main character Wil suddenly finds herself in a predicament where her touch turns living things to gold. When things take a turn for the worst, she is forced to flee her kingdom and search for a cure, or face death.
I loved that her family played such a big role in the book. the 1st 30% sets up their relationships and dynamics. Her brothers and parents all have their quirks. Their well defined personalities just BARELY made up for the lack of effort put into world building.
a We've got your north and south isles at war. Yup, that's the extent of building up new lands. Excellent, I know.
Loom, the love interest was such a bland and boring love interest...I KNOW THAT. I FULLY UNDERSTAND HE HAS THE PERSONALITY OF A ROCK. But despite all that, I couldn't not love his sweetness and determination to do good. The whole tortured prince thing really just does it for me. What can I say? I'm a sop for that crap.
Zay, felt like she was written for the sole purpose of being difficult. You know what I'm talking about; those specific characters who have to be mean or caustic with no rhyme or reason? Blegh.
Will I read the finale in this Duology? Absolutely. Despite the fact that I shouldn't have enjoyed this book as much as I did, well, I just did. So there.
