We have our main character Romy, a genetically modified human, part of knot 27, whose purpose in life is to clean up space debris and keep Earth safe until the effects of global warming on Earth wane making it viable for human life once again.
During a big battle against aliens who want Earth for tphemselves, Romy and her knot crash land on Earth and must learn to survive and trust in a world where not all is as it seems or should be
I loved the solid friendship between knot 27, and how they stuck together no matter the situation...including the Discovery of puberty and hormones (which was hilarious by the way.) Romy, Ohobos, Drimos, Thryim, and Elara were all unique despite being modified in the same manner to have the same specific purpose. I was stuck between who I actually wanted Romy's love interest to be. Her solid and loving best friend or the mysterious Atlas who's she's attracted to instantly (and continues to be) for no real reason. Not to mention he has one-thousand-and-one secrets which he refuses to tell her.
Overall, a well-written sci-fi/dystopia with a somewhat generic plot that was made entirely St. Clare's own with her flavor of sass and humor sprinkled in. And yes, I did pick up the second book immediately.
