To be honest, I'm not sure what to think of Huntress. To be sure, it has entertaining parts and uses the well-worn YA formula of "girl is trained by hot guy in Academy-like setting." Unfortunately, Huntress did not draw any cards on originality. The main characters- Logan and Audrey- were likeable enough but nothing we haven't seen before in well-loved series of the same formula ( ie Covenant by JLA or Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.)
Fair warning: the next part of this review is my opinion- and my opinion only. It is not meant to offend the author, Christians, or anyone who practices Christianity.
my issue is in regards to the notion that
I went in knowing Huntress was a Christian- themed novel. It was fine with me till about 80% through where the religious aspect really weighed in. it was not only suffocating, but was ruining any character development Audrey had gained through the story. the idea that is absolutely ridiculous and fanatical to me. It's as if saying Audrey did nothing and was merely a pawn in this story to carry out His will. Saying she wouldn't have been able to do anything without His lended power.
So from now on, I should just assume there's going to be no character development in anyone because God is just using them; they have no talents of their own. In addition, the idea of God giving off this disappointment feeling was slightly unnerving, especially to those who may be on the fence about religion. it was flat out religion-shaming Audrey for doubting Him in a way that just didn't need to be done. Young girls reading the story don't need that moral lashing, thanks.
Despite my grumblings, this book still gets 2.5 Stars because I did read it till the end and the end did make me want to read the next book only for the love story because I'm a sucker for 'em.
