Name of the wind is only day 1 of a three day story Kvothe has prepared to tell the chronicler. The mere beginning's of Kvothe's rise to power and the foreshadowed devestation he one day brings are still yet to be explored in book 2.
Book 1 of the Kingkiller Chronicles is by far one of the best written books I've ever read. The narration and harsh realities of his life dazzled me and pulled me in when I thought I could not possible enjoy such a mundane story. Trust me, Kvothe's life is anything but mundane. Rothfuss richly details both the perversion and goodness that is inherent to humanity and how it effects our young hero. I found not one page boring. My only minimal complaint is how wordy Kvothe can be. I don't need one concept or line explained in 5 different similes. I under you believe this woman is life-wreckingly beautiful. I got it the first time...and 2nd, and 3rd, and 4th, and 5th....you get the point; stop harping on it.
I have been dying to jump into book 2: The Wise Man's Fear, but have attempting to hold of as it seems book 3 is indefinite. It seems Rothfuss is attempting to follow in the steps of George RR Martin and make his fans wait a decade for the last book (I believe it's 7 years since the release of book 2). I'm not a fan of authors who tease readers and have no respect for their fans. We pour our hearts into your books and we expect you to do the same. 3 yrs? sure. 4 years? okay...fine. but 7 and still indefinite? Not cool man. Will I still read it? Yea, I'm obsessed. Am I happy about it? No.
