I hate insta-love. SO MUCH. I almost DNFed outta here at page 30. But I decided to give the book the benefit of the doubt as it had such good reviews. It was worth, BUT STILL DOESN'T MAKE UP FOR INSTA-LOVE!!!! ARGH!!!
So, I got pulled in by the beautiful cover and title. Sue me. Violet is our main character here. She hates her brother Luke, or so she says. Hates her friend next door, Sunshine, again, so she says. She lives in a sleepy little town living in her grandmother's clothes, waiting for her parents to come back from their artist adventures and take care of her. In need of some extra cash, she rents the guest house out to a boy her age named River. This boy, let me tell you, is bad news.
Too much unnecessary cursing. Seriously, stop it, dammit.
Violet is probably one of the weakest female protagonists I have ever had the uncomfortable pleasure of reading about. Let me explain in Hetal words:
Vi: No! I must not kick river out. He is EVILLLLLL and hurting all my family and friends.
Ohh..ohhhhh but his kisses are so nice. I guess he can stay, even though HE'S HURTING EVERYONE I KNOW.
WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU GIRL??
Needless to say the latter 60% of the book was a lot better. In fact, I absolutely couldn't put it down!! It was action packed, full of moral decisions, revelations, and EVILLLLL. I read it all in one go! It would have gotten 4 stars for the awesome latter half, but I just can't give a book with such weak characters that type of rating.
I will be picking up the next book very very soon! Though I kind of hated it a lot at times, the book was definitely and interesting read and I can't wait to see how the second book ties up all the ends!
