Piper is the head consul's daughter. A Haemon (part human/part demon) who unlike all other haemons, has no magic. When an important artifact is stolen and her home destroyed, she and two demons who she happened to be keeping an eye on are under heated gaze of the law for high suspicions of stealing said artifact. Thus, Lyre the sexy succubi, Ash, the mysterius draconian, and Piper the haemon, start on a journey to clear their names. Trust, betrayal, kick-ass scenes, and a little build of romance ensues.
This book was fantastic. The plot just really kept on moving. I had such a hard time putting the book down. All three of our main characters are loveable. They grow to trust and gather a grudging respect for one another. All have weaknesses and strengths that are played out very well in the book. I'm hoping to see more romance in the sequel, but really, this book is so good I barely noticed lack there of- and I'm a HUGE romance fan soooo.
Piper really struggles trusting the daemons with her and her family's life. She's always been taught to associate with demons in the most formal way possible, and now here they are playing on a precipice that could have them falling off at the slightest push. She figures some shit out though, because she's a BAMF like that. What I really liked is the slow build it took for them to trust each other. None of them really felt comfortable with each other until the very end, and then still there are some questions that need answers.
I would recommend this 10/10 for someone is looking for a quick read that really pulls you into the world. Someone who loves fantasy and magic would really enjoy it!
FYI- I'm writing this book the day after I finished it. If you're interested, the second book "Bind the Soul" is a short read (like I read in 4 hours type of short) and even better than the first!!!
