Ok, I see the hype. Do I agree with it? No, not entirely. But I do see it and understand it. Well done, Holly Black. No one is who I thought they were.
Taryn? She's a brat with no concept of loyalty or family. I hope she coughs up a hairball from whatever she gets going on.
I do not hate Carden as much as I anticipated. The hate is real for this dude and I mean, I agree he's done some unforgivable things, but more than anything else, I pity him. I pity that he hides been
Behind cruelty and a forced loftiness that stems from constant inebriation.
We all knew that the whole spy plot would end in disaster, and it did. But also it didn't. And a plot that can collapse the two together? That's genius.
The twist at the end? It was unexpected but I wasn't all that surprised in complete honesty. Jude is who she needs to be. For Oak. For Vivi, for all of Faerie. She is who she needs to be for everyone but herself.
Overall a great read. I'm hoping for more fire in both the Romance and Action departments. I found myself bored at certain parts when it was just Jude's self-deprecating inner dialogue. 4 stars!
